Sometimes circumstances

Compel one to take stock

And to change what needs

To be changed

 

That has happened and now

Decisions have been made

New rules of behaviour apply

From here on out

 

All that is needed is the will

To make those changes take

Visualise the happy outcome

With a little help 

I thought siphons were for soda

Or for stealing petrol

From a neighbour's car

 

But today I found another use

For the word

Soaked in water

 

I had to fix an ailing cistern

The book said there was no need

To call an expert

 

And so I didn't but I should've

And now my seals

Are imperfect

 

Not as serious as I thought

But bad enough

Not flushed with success

How much is enough?

Right now I feel

I could do with some more

But my instinct tells me

Enough already

 

 

Looking out my window I see

Two fat pigeons on the apple tree

Almost motionless in the drizzle

They've been there just as long

As I've been looking at them

 

They seem unperturbed by the weather

Wish I could say the same

About me

 

An objective observer might say

That gazing for hours out the window

Indicates I should get out more

 

Not in this weather mate

I've been on sabbatical

Taking care of business

I'd almost forgotten where I'd been

And what I'd left behind

 

Now that I've been reminded

Of all I have

I promise I'll come back

From the long grass

Once in a while

The head above the parapet

The toe in the water

Sussing the scene

 

Not every day

Life must be lead

Commitments fulfilled

Freedom justified

 

Occasional

When the mood is right

When the light is green

Like now

The end of day approaches

All the things you achieved

Or tried to achieve (and failed) throughout the day

Are totted up and accounted for

Added to your life's ledger

You may be in the black or in the red

Depending on the day you've had

 

So will you categorise yourself

Based on your daily bottom line?

Or will you take the longer view?

That's up to you

 

Life seen in short snippets can be deceptive

Good people go through hard times

Scoundrels have a lucky run

Which are you?

 

I never did, but then I never got the chance.

Had I had the chance, who knows what I would have done?

The possibilities are endless

Or would have been had there been the slightest possibility

Of a possibility
